Fred Birang received his BSME with emphasis on robotics and control systems in 1987. He then received his MSEE with emphasis on Digital/Analog VLSI design and device physics in 1997. Fred worked for Lattice Semiconductor as an IC Design Engineer for three years, where he was responsible for full custom transistor level design of high density CPLDs. He has designed several high speed chips (3.5 n.sec., 0.25 µ.) using HSPICE for simmulation and Verilog XL for full chip logic verification. He has been responsible for project management, specifications, design, data-path optimization of several new chips, and has worked closely with layout engineers on tape-out, and with manufacturing engineers to ensure smooth production release of those chips. Fred has many years of experience as a Project Manager working for several companies in the area. He has managed several successful projects, and has been responsible for product specifications, costing, budgeting, and scheduling of those projects. He also has many years of experience designing wafer handling robotic systems, flexible automation systems, pneumatic systems, X-Y tables, water cooling, and air distribution systems, and writing software for PC controlled automation systems.
